Some Palm V and Palm IIIx connected organizers experience an issue whereby the date does not advance properly. This condition normally is a result of a low
battery situation and can be addressed by making sure the Palm V is charged (or the Palm IIIx has fresh batteries) and by performing a soft reset. To do this:
Use the reset tip tool, or the tip of an unfolded paper clip (or similar blunt object), to gently press and release the button inside the reset hole on the back of the device. Do not use a sharp object or use
excessive force.
Withdraw the reset tip tool
Should this action not correct the problem, then it is most likely caused by the installation and usage of third party software. To confirm that the device is still working properly, perform the following steps to
remove all third party software and verify proper date advancement functionality still exists on the device by performing a hard reset (backing up all information and applications first). To do this, perform the
following:
Place the organizer in the HotSync cradle. Back up your data by pressing the HotSync button on the cradle.
Once the HotSync process is complete, remove your unit from the cradle.
Press and hold down the power button.
Use the reset tip tool*, or the tip of an unfolded paper clip (or similar blunt object), to gently press and release the button inside the reset hole on the back of the
device. Do not use a sharp object or use excessive force.
Withdraw the reset tip tool and wait for the Palm Computing© platform logo to appear on the screen.
Release the power button.
When prompted, press the scroll button up to erase all data.
Once the unit is reset, perform the following to verify the date is now advancing properly:
Go to the Prefs application
Select General
Set the time to 11:59 PM, noting the date
Power down the unit
Wait one minute
Power the device back on and verify that the date has advanced one day
If the date did advance properly, restore your data by performing a HotSync (This will also re-install your applications if you are using Palm OS 3.3, if you are using a previous version you should now
re-installl your software manually). Insure that the date advancing will still function by again setting the time to 11:59 PM, turning the unit off, waiting one minute, and powering the unit back up.
If the unit
advances the date properly in the first test but not the second this indicates your device is working properly, but that you've got a problem with third party software on your unit.
